ISMSRC Organizes Workshop to Advance Research and Academic Journals toward International Scopus Standards
The Islamic Sciences and Muslim Studies Research Center (ISMSRC), Faculty of Islamic Sciences (FaIS), Prince of Songkla University, organized a workshop entitled “Turning Research into Publication: In-Depth Strategies for Journal Selection and Manuscript Writing for Scopus” during 15–16 January 2026 at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences. The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of researchers and editorial board members in journal selection, academic manuscript writing, and preparing research outputs for publication in internationally indexed journals, particularly Scopus.
The workshop was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sunawari bin Long, Editor-in-Chief and Founder of the International Journal of Islamic Thoughts (IJIT), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaizul bin Ab Rahman, Visiting Professor at UKM, Malaysia. Both speakers shared their expertise and extensive experience in developing research and academic journals in accordance with international standards.

On 15 January 2026, the program focused on in-depth lectures and practical guidance on transforming research into publishable academic articles. Topics included selecting appropriate journals, understanding Scopus evaluation criteria, and structuring academic manuscripts in line with international publishing standards. In the afternoon, a hands-on workshop was conducted in which participants collaboratively analyzed sample articles. This session enabled participants to critically review, refine, and apply practical strategies for improving manuscripts to meet international publication requirements.

The program continued on 16 January 2026 with an intensive knowledge-sharing session on academic journal development, held at the QA Meeting Room, FaIS. Editorial board representatives from academic journals within universities in the southern border provinces and related networks participated, including Al-Nur Journal, Al-Hikmah Journal, Manara Journal, Journal of Islamic Studies, and the Journal of Education, Language, and Cultural Studies (JELCS). Participants exchanged insights, experiences, and best practices for preparing academic journals for inclusion in the Scopus database.
The key outcomes of the two-day workshop highlighted that the development of research outputs and academic journals goes beyond technical procedures. It requires a systematic approach, a clear journal vision, effective management, and a strong commitment to academic ethics, transparency, and international standards.
