FaIS Students Join SELC 2026 in Malaysia, Gaining Muslim Entrepreneurship Experience and Building Youth Networks Across Three Countries

The Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, led a group of 10 students to participate in the Student Entrepreneurship Leadership Camp (SELC 2026), held from 28–30 July 2026 at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Malaysia. The programme aimed to develop leadership skills, entrepreneurial mindsets, and the ability to work collaboratively with others in an international context. UMK is a university that places entrepreneurship education and business development at the core of its foundation, guided by the principle “Entrepreneurship is Our Thrust,” or “Entrepreneurship is Our Driving Force.” The programme brought together students from three countries: Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Malaysia; the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus (PSU), Thailand; and Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI), Indonesia. The Faculty’s delegation comprised five members of the Student Club and five students from the Islamic Business Innovation Programme.

Throughout the three-day programme, students exchanged ideas and experiences related to entrepreneurship at their respective universities. They also practised developing business concepts through a Business Model Canvas (BMC) workshop and gained knowledge about the qualities of a good entrepreneur, including creativity, business planning, teamwork, ethics, and social responsibility. In addition, the programme featured national food and cultural presentations, during which the PSU delegation presented “Tom Yum” to showcase the distinctive character of Thai cuisine while creating a space for learning and mutual understanding among students from different cultural backgrounds.

For the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, entrepreneurship skill development has consistently been one of its key areas of focus. This commitment is reflected through the Islamic Business Innovation Programme and the Mini SEED project, which encourages students to develop business ideas, practise creating business models, and prepare their work for real presentations. Participation in SELC 2026 therefore served not only as an opportunity to learn from international partners, but also as a platform for the Faculty to share its own experience and approaches to entrepreneurship development with partner universities from the three participating countries.

Another important part of the programme was the Forum Ilmu academic discussion entitled “How to Excellent Muslim Entrepreneurship.” Mr. Fadil Baha from Student Development represented Prince of Songkla University in exchanging perspectives on developing Muslim entrepreneurs who are knowledgeable, capable, committed to ethical principles, and able to contribute positively to society. Meanwhile, Mr. Marwan Jealae from the Planning Unit accompanied the delegation and provided support and assistance to the students throughout the trip.

The Faculty of Islamic Sciences extends its sincere appreciation to Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and all parties involved for organising the activities and taking excellent care of the participants. The programme provided students with valuable learning opportunities, friendships, and meaningful experiences throughout the three days. It also created lasting memories and offered an important opportunity to strengthen networks and collaboration among students and universities from the three participating countries.
