FaIS, in collaboration with IPIZ, UUM, and Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah, organized the 2nd Southeast Asia International Symposium on Best Practices of Sustainable Zakat Management on June 26, 2024



Yesterday (June 26, 2024), the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Prince of Songkla University(PSU), Pattani Campus, in collaboration with the Institute of Zakat Research and Innovation (Institut Penyelidikan dan Inovasi Zakat, or IPIZ) Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), and Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah Darul Aman, organized the 2nd Southeast Asia International Symposium on Best Practice of Sustainable Zakat Management 2024. The event took place in the Ayyubi Conference Room, 5th Floor, International Islamic Studies Building, Faculty of Islamic Sciences. The symposium aimed to enhance understanding and present sustainable zakat management practices to zakat practitioners, researchers, academics, and interested individuals from financial institutions, Islamic cooperatives, and mosque committees, with over 70 attendees.



The opening ceremony was presided over by Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Roflee Waehama, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences. On the occasion of the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah, Dato' Syeikh Haji Zakaria bin Othman, DSDK, AMK, gave a lecture on "Management of Zakat Recipients in Thailand and Malaysia." A panel discussion was then on "Asnaf Management System in Kedah, Malaysia, and Pattani Province, Thailand."

Among the panelists were Dr. Ahmad Khilmy Abdul Rahim, Director of the Institute of Zakat Research and Innovation at UUM, Islamic Business School, Haji Koya Waeleng, who represents the Islamic Committee of Pattani Provincial Zakat Affairs, and a lecturer at the Islamic Business Innovation program, Dr. Tawat Noipom. The discussion was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Farisal Osman. In the afternoon, there was a meeting to discuss the implementation of operations. Additionally, on June 27, 2024, a field visit will be conducted to collect data and explore additional areas.
